Mecca Bingo Sheffield recently hosted a special birthday party for some of their members. It was quite by coincidence that the manager of the bingo club discovered that they had more than thirty club members all named June, so at the beginning of June she decided to host a special party for all of the members named June. In effect at the Mecca Bingo Club Sheffield, June WAS busting out all over.

The bingo club on Penistone Road also found that they had members named April and May and they decided to invite them also, so they threw a VIP party with champagne, special games of bingo a cabaret and goody bags for all the ladies present. This even managed to attract five Junes and three Mays but unfortunately no Aprils showed up.

None of the ladies knew each other by name before the Mecca bingo June party, but once the event was over, June Shaw, seventy-six, June Ward, seventy one, June Fletcher, sixty, June Peet, fifty-nine and June Ward, seventy-one all became firm friends. Even the Mays felt really special and thought that it was a lovely idea, and from now on all the Junes and the Mays know each other well and will be chatting to each other. What a lovely idea this was to introduce people who never knew each other before. It can only come from bingo!

Mecca Bingo Sells off to the Malaysians Again!

Last year we heard about Mecca Bingo selling off part of the shares in the company to the giant Malaysian gambling company Genting. They actually sold of 11 % of the shareholding, and now we hear that they are in the process of selling more shares to the Guoco group, also a Malaysian gambling concern, who already holds a stake in Rank, the parent company of Mecca bingo. This increases their stake in the company to a huge 12.67%.

Mecca bingo is a major force in the UK bingo business, it is a successful Brand and they are also famous for operating online bingo. At present that are experiencing strong profitability challenges in their land based bingo halls and this more than likely is attributed to the fact that external factors have impacted on turnovers., these include double taxation, the smoking ban and the removal of section 21 slots machines from bingo clubs.

This move has caused speculation as to whether there might be a takeover bid in the works, however I suppose that we shall have to take a “wait and see” attitude regarding he possibility of a pending takeover. Mecca Held out against the US gaming giant Harrah’s, in their attempt at a takeover. But his latest sale of shares has the bingo pundits wondering what is going to happen next.
