The Bad and the Ugly of Online Bingo

Although I like to think that generally people who play bingo are nice people, in every community you get the decent people and you get the indecent people.

Fortunately we don’t hear too often about the indecent people so they must be few and far between. However, this is a story about a very naught mother of five who was recently prosecuted for secretly obtaining someone’s credit card details to play online bingo and this was done in the name of revenge.

The courts heard that during her fifth pregnancy Kerry Burgess took care of a website for a local businessman and felt that she had not been rewarded sufficiently for having undertaken this job. So she unlawfully managed to obtain the credit card details of the businessman’s partner, Ms. Lorraine Elger, under the pretence of using the card to book a hotel room for Ms Elger and the businessman. However, she proceeded to copy the credit card details and joined an online bingo site using these. In just three days she managed to ring up bingo bills in the amount of £1 120, all in the name of spite!

Ms. Elger spotted the bingo transactions and reported it to the police. Kerry Burgess pleaded guilty to fraud, was conditionally discharged for 2 years and ordered to repay £500 of the money she had stolen. I don’t believe that I have ever heard of such a stupid case of revenge, this one should go into the Darwin Awards.
